Enlarged pores refined.

Pores become visibly larger from sebum overload, ageing or acne history — the condition is cosmetic but often carries textural roughness with it. The pathway is course-based and paired with barrier-safe home care.

What it is

The opening, widened.

Enlarged pores are a skin condition in which the openings of the sebaceous glands become visibly enlarged. They are often associated with excessive sebum production, skin ageing, genetic predisposition or a history of acne.

The condition is primarily cosmetic but may also be accompanied by uneven skin texture — makeup application becomes uneven, light no longer reflects smoothly and blackheads recur.

You cannot 'close' a pore. You can regulate the sebum, refine the surface, and change how light bounces off it.
How it shows up

What patients notice.

Symptoms named in the patient's own words alongside the clinical read.

01

“My pores are very large.”

Visible pore openings — usually most pronounced across the T-zone.

02

Uneven or pitted-looking skin

Textural irregularity from repeated congestion — reads as roughness under raking light.

03

More pronounced pores in the T-zone

Nose, forehead and inner cheeks — the highest density of sebaceous glands.

04

Increased oily shine

Overactive sebum production driving the visible pore appearance.

05

Rough skin texture

Surface irregularity beyond the pore openings themselves.

06

Frequent blackheads or comedones

Comedones repeatedly form in the same enlarged pores — a functional sign of chronic congestion.

Types & drivers

Why the pores widen.

Enlarged pores arise from several drivers — the pathway depends on which is dominant.

#TypeWhat's happeningPathway
01Sebaceous overactivity.Excess sebum stretches the pore openings — the most common driver.Sebum regulation
02Age-related laxity.Loss of collagen around the pore reduces support and enlarges the opening.Collagen stimulation
03Genetic predisposition.Baseline pore size determined by family — the pathway is refinement, not reversal.Course-based
04Acne- related.History of comedones has stretched the pore permanently.Resurfacing
05Sun damage.UV-induced elastosis reduces support around the pore.Sun protection + resurfacing
Diagnostics-first

We map the pores before we treat.

Every pore pathway begins with quantitative imaging — VISIA measures density, distribution and surface texture together.
